Design details Little things make a big difference

For residents, this is their home, and because of the nature of Alzheimer’s disease and other age-related dementia, a secured environment is necessary. Thus, most of residents’ days will be spent in their neighborhood. For that reason, it is even more important that the spaces are warm and inviting and feel like home.

Architecture

The small neighborhoods of 12 to 13 residents allow for more personal interaction and a family atmosphere.

Two neighborhoods can be opened to allow residents to stroll in a controlled setting and make a loop. This design also allows staff to easily move between neighborhoods.

All rooms are private with a full bathroom and five-foot-wide showers.

Open floor plans allow staff to see all the way to the front door while still providing a variety of intimate seating and activity areas.

Touchmark’s Growing Together Gardens™ program provides contact with living plants. A landscaped exterior courtyard is shared between two neighborhoods. The thoughtfully designed gardens and courtyard include nontoxic plants, raised garden beds, seasonal plantings for year-round color, herbs and vegetables that are used in the cooking program, and much more.

Each neighborhood features a residential design and includes a living room, family room, dining area, and kitchen. Stained wood cabinets, built-in bookshelves, entertainment center, and an electric fireplace provide a familiar, home-like setting.

Interior Design

Tuscan colors—earthy reds, browns, golds, yellows, and oranges create a very warm, upscale feel and tie to the Grandview design.

Bright and cheerful fabrics with advanced textiles cover a variety of chairs, sofas, recliners, and gliders to offer comfortable seating for residents.

Elegant window treatments and custom curtains lend a sense of elegance to the spaces.

Artwork is carefully selected with subject matter easily recognizable for residents. Specific pieces, such as a horse facing one direction, are strategically placed to guide residents to or away from spaces or exits.

Specialty memorabilia walls in each neighborhood reflect local Oklahoma sites, universities, landmarks, and daily life. These were selected to make a connection with local residents.

Accessories and knickknacks are chosen to be tactile and fun for residents to pick up and explore—and perhaps evoke a memory or a story. All are made of nonbreakable materials.

Many whimsical, fun, and inspiring items are placed throughout the neighborhoods to brighten residents’ days.

We selected the theme of trees for each neighborhood. A beautiful “Tree of Life” tapestry in the entry represents harmony, growth, and the connection we have to each other, community, and nature in balance.
